The Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences of Peking University invites applications for multiple faculty positions in atmospheric and oceanic sciences. Solicited areas include extreme weather and climate change, atmospheric physics and environment, physical oceanography, and paleoclimate and planetary atmospheres. We welcome applicants working on climate dynamics and modeling, synoptic and meso-scale meteorology, radiation and remote sensing, atmospheric chemistry, cloud physics, atmospheric boundary layer, land-air interaction, planetary atmospheres, ocean general circulation and dynamics, air-sea interaction and climate, ocean biogeochemical cycle, ocean model development, and satellite oceanography. All positions are at the tenure-track assistant professor level, although in exceptional cases a more senior starting position may be considered. Recruiting is conducted two times each year, and will continue until all positions are filled. On-site interview is conducted in March or October, and the application deadline is normally one month before the on-site interview. The deadline of the next round of application is February 1, 2026.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. degree in atmospheric/oceanic sciences or related research disciplines
At least two years of postdoctoral research experience
Benefits
Start-up research funding is available. The amount of funding is dependent on the applicant’s research area.
Base annual salary is competitive. For detailed salary information, please contact us.
Subject to availability, a 2-bedroom university apartment may be rented at a reduced rate. Subsidized housing purchase is likely in the near future.

Reference letters for tenure-track positions: three reference letters (including one from the Ph.D. thesis advisor) in electronic pdf format are required. Please provide us the names and affiliations of the referees. Meanwhile, please ask the referees to send reference letters directly to us.
Reference letters for tenured positions: Your application will be sent out for international review. Three recommendation letters (including one from the Ph.D. thesis advisor) and at least seven additional reference letters in electronic pdf format are required. There are additional detailed requirements on the reference letters. Please contact us prior to your application. Early contact is preferred, since the international review normally takes two months or more.
